In this exhibit, Constance Pappalardo shares her love for the linear as vertical and horizontal. She explores how the orientation of the lines and the color produce a completely different effect.
Most of the black & white verticals started with music, were born out of the genius of others, such as Mozart and Bach. When I am listening to a piece of classical music and I close my eyes, what I see is the lines, the vibrations and explosions of the sounds, the notes, the music. It always comes to me that way. And in black and white, never color, perhaps referencing the notes and sheet music I have seen throughout my life.
In the horizontal color work, it’s all about color and light and imagination. My inspiration comes from nature and the magic of the ever-changing landscape. The landscapes suggest themselves by the ultimate horizontal, the horizon.
